An Art Deco Master Bathroom and Guest Bathroom

The house is located in the Sam Hughes National Historic District of Tucson. it was originally built in 1941 as a two bedroom, one bathroom house. A 1970’s addition had been built to create another bathroom. We demolished the kitchen and bathrooms down to the studs, and looked at how to optimize the space for each room.

The Master Bathroom is concealed behind a frosted glass pocket door. Light from a Solatube inside the Bathroom illuminates the glass from behind.

The Master Bathroom is located at the end of this short Hallway, off the Master Bedroom. To the left is the Laundry Closet, to the right is the Master Closet.

The clients requested an Art Deco theme for the Master Bathroom. The mirror was an early find, the design for the rest of the room followed.

An antique sideboard was retrofitted to become the Master Bathroom vanity.

A mixture of dark brown marble tile and gray veined porcelain tile creates an Art Deco pattern on the floor of the Master Bathroom.

In the Master Bathroom, the tile pattern continues into the glass enclosed steam shower.

The Guest Bathroom was re-configured within the existing space.

The Guest Bathroom bathtub was relocated to be under the window, which is the only new window in the house. This window has insulating, frosted glass to provide privacy and to keep out cold drafts.
